You’re not mine

Maybe you’re not mine to be fixed,
But it hurts to see you broken.
Wish I could breathe life in you
Alas! I’m but an angel of death
The starry skies have failed to save you
From the demons of this abysmal night
Smiling through the shadows of defeat and despair
I can still hear you crying inside…
Darling I was forbidden to love
Now your wounded soul bleeds my heart
Poison cannot be the right accessory
On the naive lips of an innocent
Neither blood from a nymph’s eye
Is the right choice for an ingredient
The fear of losing you from sight
Will never justify the eyes I might blind
And the lives that may get crushed
In the drunkenness of rage
So I must drop my blade this time
And for the dawns that are yet to shine
You’ll heal by the time I’m gone
I’ll let myself crack a little more

Something more…

Beneath your armour of blasé
All that pain you carry
Wonder how long you can hide?
The living world and your inner demons
Working hard to expose your jaded face
Under that smiling mask…
But what if you don’t hide it anymore
Let them consume you whole
Would you still be yourself
Or just a shrunken hollow shell…
Your despair loves to thrive on
Bittersweet memories of the past
And pile of your shredded dreams
Do you hear anything they say
Over the silence of your empty screams!?
Its sad that you’ve given up looking for
The love which was once promised
Myth or not, it was but
A reason enough to carry on
Now you question all living souls
Random riddles with no answers
Can’t rest, yet tired to the core
Eyes yearning for something more…

Oh darling of mine…

Oh darling of mine
Do you know what it is to dream?
Things that are real, surreal and in between.
Do you know what it is to forget…
About the existence of your own self.
To live in a distant memory
Void of concrete feelings,
To wake up from a poetic death
Only to find yourself in mortal hell.
I’ll tell you about bout the darkness
That speaks to me when earthbounds sleep
And fear not, for what they say
Cause I’d never invite them in.
There’s so much somberness to cherish
That I often forget to smile
So if you see me laughing
Know that its borrowed, not mine…
You ask, what really scares me?
I guess the hope of feeling alive again
Or maybe I fear, my lines are so blurred
Would forever hold on to the sweet pain…

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
